DULL, DRY HAIR

Dull, dry tresses occur when brittle hair shafts are unable to absorb or retain the moisture that’s necessary for a lush, radiant mane. It’s true, harsh chemicals and heated styling tools are part of the problem, but you can minimize their impact and restore strand health with remedies that lock out heat, seal in hydration, and restore vitality.

Rosemary Hair Balm

YIELD: 1 TREATMENT
STORAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED
TIME: 15 MINUTES

The protein in gelatin fortifies damaged hair, while apple cider vinegar and rosemary give it lustrous shine. Prepare this treatment just before you shampoo.

1 cup hot tap water

1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

5 drops rosemary essential oil

1.In a small bowl, combine the tap water and gelatin, whisking to blend well.

2.Set the mixture aside for about 5 minutes.

3.Once it begins to gel slightly, add the apple cider vinegar and rosemary essential oil.

4.Stir well to combine.

5.Work through your freshly shampooed hair and onto your scalp.

6.Leave the balm in place for 10 minutes.

7.Rinse with warm water.

8.Repeat once or twice weekly for best results.

Lavender Hair Mask

YIELD: 1 TREATMENT

TIME: 20 MINUTES

Yogurt, honey, and rich oils infuse protein and moisture into parched hair, repairing damage while amping up shine. Prepare this treatment just before you shampoo.

¼ cup plain yogurt

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon olive or sunflower oil

5 drops lavender essential oil

1.In a blender, combine all the ingredients.

2.Process on medium-low speed until blended.

3.Transfer to a plastic squeeze bottle.

4.Work the treatment through your freshly shampooed hair and massage into your scalp.

5.Leave the mask in place for 15 minutes.

6.Rinse with warm water.

7.Use twice weekly for best results.

Floral Hot Oil Infusion

TIME: 45 MINUTES

There’s a reason hot oil treatments are time-honored salon favorites. They strengthen brittle hair, add shine, and restore moisture. No sunflower oil, no problem. Olive or corn oil works wonders.

¼ cup sunflower oil

1 tablespoon lavender flowers

1 tablespoon chopped rosemary leaves

1.In a small saucepan, add the sunflower oil, lavender, and rosemary. Heat over low heat for 30 minutes.

2.Strain the oil into a bowl, then use a funnel to transfer it to a plastic squeeze bottle.

3.When comfortably warm to touch, apply the entire treatment to your hair and scalp, gently massaging it in.

4.Wrap your head in a damp, hot towel.

5.Leave the infusion in place for 15 minutes.

6.Shampoo and condition as usual.

7.Use once or twice weekly for best results.
