If vaginal dryness is causing discomfort during sex, try one of these natural lubricants instead of a pricey commercial one made with some of the same chemicals found in products like brake fluid and oven cleaner. In the meantime, work with your doctor to determine whether the underlying cause is a more serious gynecological condition.
Ylang–Ylang Lubricating Balm
YIELD: 8 OUNCES
STORAGE: GLASS JAR OR TIN
TIME: 15 MINUTES
With coconut oil that changes from solid to liquid when warmed, this lubricant contains ylang-ylang essential oil, which also acts as a natural aphrodisiac.
8 ounces coconut oil
½ teaspoon ylang-ylang essential oil
1.In a double boiler, melt the coconut oil over low heat.
2.Remove from the heat when liquefied and cool for 2 minutes.
3.Add the ylang-ylang essential oil.
4.Pour the balm into a glass jar or tin.
5.Cool completely before capping tightly.
6.Using your fingertips, apply to intimate areas before sex. Use as much as is needed.
7.This lubricant is safe to use as often as you like. Store it in a cool, dark place.
Warming Geranium–Jasmine Lubricating Balm
YIELD: 4 OUNCES
STORAGE: GLASS BOTTLE
TIME: 15 MINUTES
With nourishing almond oil to lubricate, plus geranium and jasmine essential oils to help balance your hormones, this balm contains peppermint essential oil for a warm, tingly sensation.
4 ounces almond oil
10 drops geranium essential oil
10 drops jasmine essential oil
3 drops peppermint essential oil
1.In a glass bottle, combine all the ingredients.
2.Shake well to blend.
3.Shake for 2 to 3 seconds before each use.
4.Apply a small amount to intimate areas before sex. Use as much as is needed. Store in a cool, dark place.
This lubricant is safe to use as often as you like. Omit the peppermint if you prefer to use lubricant that doesn’t tingle.
