Pets make fantastic companions, but their odors don’t. Keeping your home smelling Fido-free doesn’t require harsh deodorizers that break the bank. Instead, test-drive these safe, natural deodorizers that emit a fragrance just as fresh as the chemical kind. Simple ingredients save cash and sidestep the worry that comes from sprinkling scented toxins all over carpets, rugs, and furniture.

Rosemary Pet Stain Remover

YIELD: MAKES ABOUT 4 CUPS
STORAGE: GLASS 1-QUART JAR WITH TIGHT-FITTING LID
TIME: 20 MINUTES

Why pay high prices for special pet stain removers when you can make an equally effective homemade solution with simple ingredients? The rosemary essential oil will help deter pets from re-staining the same area, and this formula is gentle enough to use on most types of carpet and upholstery.

1 bar solid castile soap, chopped or grated

2½ cups boiling water

½ cup rubbing alcohol

1 teaspoon rosemary essential oil

1.In a glass quart jar, combine the castile soap and boiling water.

2.Stir until all the soap melts.

3.When the liquid has cooled, add the rubbing alcohol and rosemary essential oil.

4.Close the lid tightly and shake well. Shake again before each use.

5.To use, blot up as much of the stain as you can before beginning, then pour about a teaspoon of the stain remover onto a scrub brush.

6.Use the brush to scrub the stain, working your way from its outer edge to its center. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for 10 minutes before blotting up. Repeat until the stain is gone.
