VAGINAL ODOR

Images

True, vaginal odor is an embarrassing issue, but the good news is that it also serves as an indicator that the beneficial bacteria—aka lactobacilli—inhabiting your nether region is out of balance. If you’ve been taking antibiotics, cleansing with commercial feminine hygiene products, or using douches frequently (all of which deplete the vagina’s healthy bacteria population), use these preparations to bring your vaginal flora back into balance.

Lavender Suppository

YIELD: 1 TREATMENT
STORAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED
TIME: 30 MINUTES

Plain yogurt with live, active cultures contains lactobacillus bacteria, and lavender essential oil helps to kill off fungus that could be contributing to the unpleasant odor.

1 tablespoon plain yogurt

2 drops lavender essential oil

1.In a small bowl, combine the yogurt and essential oil.

2.Apply the entire amount to a tampon. If using a tampon with an applicator, remove the cotton portion and coat it with the yogurt mixture.

3.Insert the suppository into your vagina. Remove and discard it after 30 minutes.

4.Repeat the treatment twice daily for 3 days in a row.

Cleansing Tea Tree Bath

YIELD: 1 TREATMENT
STORAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED
TIME: 30 MINUTES

Tea tree essential oil, baking soda, and apple cider vinegar combine to eliminate excess bacteria. If you have no tea tree essential oil, try lavender or eucalyptus instead.

2 cups apple cider vinegar

6 drops tea tree essential oil

½ cup baking soda

1.Draw a warm bath.

2.Add the apple cider vinegar and tea tree essential oil to the bath, then swish with your hand.

3.Sprinkle the baking soda on top of the water.

4.Soak in the tub for 30 minutes, opening your legs to let the water make full contact with the exterior portion of your vagina.

5.After bathing, dry your body well. Excess moisture feeds the bacteria that lead to vaginal odor.

6.Use this treatment once daily for as long as needed. Keep your vaginal area dry by wearing cotton underwear and using body powder before dressing each day.
