ADHD

Characterized by impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) commonly affects children but often lasts into or starts in adulthood. Conventional prescriptive medications used to treat ADHD are stimulants. Like these drugs, stimulant herbs can have a calming effect, diminishing symptoms and enhancing focus. Never stop taking prescriptions for ADHD without first consulting your doctor.

Gingko Biloba Tea

YIELD: ABOUT 1 CUP
STORAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED
TIME: 15 MINUTES

Gingko biloba helps increase focus, and it also helps enhance your memory. If you take prescriptions of any kind, be sure to speak to your doctor before use.

1 tablespoon dried gingko biloba, crushed

1¼ cups boiling water

Honey or stevia (optional)

1.Place the gingko in a tea ball or infuser. In a mug filled with boiling water add the tea ball.

2.Steep for 15 minutes.

3.Add honey or stevia to sweeten, if desired, and drink.

4.Enjoy this tea once or twice daily during the morning and early afternoon hours.

Ginseng–Spice Iced Tea

YIELD: ½ GALLON
STORAGE: REFRIGERATE IN PITCHER
TIME: 30 MINUTES

Ginseng can boost dopamine levels, help you focus, and improve your memory. Use American or Korean ginseng, as they are more effective than Siberian ginseng. Sweet spices add flavor.

8 tablespoons dried ginseng root, chopped

2 whole cinnamon sticks

5 whole cloves

1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, peeled and grated

8 cups water

Honey or stevia (optional)

1.In a saucepan, combine the ginseng root, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and water. Bring to a boil.

2.Remove from the heat. Let the herbs steep for 15 minutes.

3.Strain the tea into a pitcher, using the back of a spoon to press the excess liquid from the herbs.

4.Cool to room temperature.

5.Sweeten with honey or stevia, if desired. Serve over ice.

6.Store in the refrigerator.

7.Drink 2 to 4 glasses of tea daily, during the morning and early afternoon hours. Cut back if you have trouble sleeping.

2.Cap tightly and shake well to blend.
