PREGNANCY SUMMARY
No reports linking the use of furazolidone with congenital defects have been located.
FETAL RISK SUMMARY
The Collaborative Perinatal Project monitored 50,282 mother–child pairs, 132 of whom had 1st trimester exposure to furazolidone (1). No association with malformations was found. Theoretically, furazolidone could produce hemolytic anemia in a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase-deficient newborn if given at term. Placental passage of the drug has not been reported.
BREASTFEEDING SUMMARY
No reports describing the use of furazolidone during human lactation have been located.
